I haven’t written about my horse riding lessons for a while now, but I wanted to give an update. Wow, what a difference. It’s been 6 months and I’ve been taking 3-4 lessons a week. The difference in my riding skills is amazing, but more amazing is the difference in my strength and endurance.
I had a potassium deficiency that made me lose a ton of muscle and six months ago, I wrote that 30 minutes of very light horse riding totally wiped me out. Now I can ride for an hour and a half of intense exercises and come back to the ranch and do farm work (whereas previously I came home and took a nap). One of the things I noticed is really small, but significant in my opinion. It used to be that when I walked down stairs, I only had control of my stepping for so far down the step and then I kind of fell the rest of the way-only a few inches, but I didn’t have complete control of my movement because my legs were so weak. Now I can walk down a step and absolutely control the movement down. I know it is small, but it is big to me. I’m building muscle and I’m becoming a pretty good horse rider if I say so myself.
