Turns out that women are the fastest growing segment of agriculture. There’s just something about farming that really pulls on women. I know because I, a woman, finished graduate school with a doctorate and then began to farm. There was just something about the reality of farming, it grounds you. And on top of that it is community building and I think we really are lacking that in today’s society.
What is most apparent, though, is how content these women are with their agrarian lives. “Women make the food choices, they make the choices on what to feed their family, so their movement into farming is very natural,” says Temra Costa, author of Farmer Jane: Women Changing the Way We Eat and the force behind the website Farmer Jane.
