Do You Provide Therapy?
The definition of Therapy is 1) the treatment of disease or disorders, as by some remedial, rehabilitating, or curative process, 2) a curative power or quality, 3) psychotherapy, and 4) any act, hobby, task, program, etc., that relieves tension. The definition of Mentoring has many meanings but includes 1) Professional guidance in resolving personal conflicts and emotional problems, 2) advice; opinion or instruction given in directing the judgment or conduct of another. By the definition of Therapy, The Girl’s Farm could indeed be called therapeutic, a therapeutic farm, or a therapeutic community simply but a great many things could be considered therapeutic. We use the word Mentoring simply because we provide guidance to the individuals in our community and assist them in resolving any issue they may have.
At The Girl’s Farm we support holistic emotional growth and therapy is just one method used in concert with many others. We have always had a Doctorate of Marital and Family therapy as a member of our staff and we work with many mental health professionals in the local community. We just believe that emotional growth takes place beyond a one on one session with a professional behind closed doors. The Girl’s Farm creates an environment where conflict and tension can arise, and it is during these spontaneous moments people grow. At The Girl’s Farm, young adults learn that actions can have reactions and during these moments the opportunity for learning and development can take place. Ultimately, we never forget there is a human being behind every diagnosis and that human being is interacting beyond a session. In regards to individuals that have been diagnosed with a mental illness, and/or currently seeing a mental health professional, we can support them. Not only with our staff on hand but in conjunction with local mental health services, and professionals in the surrounding community.
